Who doesn’t love the classic combination of chocolate, oatmeal, and peanut butter? These Chocolate Oatmeal Peanut Butter Bars are easy to make and always a hit!

They’re perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth or for bringing to a potluck or party. Trust me; they’ll be gone before you know it!

Peanut butter and chocolate are two of my favorite things, but when you combine them to create an incredible dessert, the results are simply heavenly! Melting the chocolate chips with peanut butter and then pouring it over chewy oatmeal bars is a delicious treat that will leave your mouth watering for more.

I have loved this recipe for Chocolate Oatmeal Peanut Butter Bars since childhood. I have fond memories of camping with family & friends with these babies. My mom’s friend, Shelia, would always make these bars, and we counted on her every camping trip to make the most delicious desserts.

Recipe Variations

  • I love the original recipe; I wanted to try a healthier twist; I removed Karo syrup {corn syrup}, and replaced it with a combination of agave nectar and honey. I was a bit worried about this, thinking it just might not work out, and it did.
  • You can make this recipe without chocolate; it’s not my preference, but they are still delicious. Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bars – Chewy oatmeal bars with a white chocolate peanut butter topping; no one can keep their hands off these.
  • Love Nuetella? Try Nutella Bars, a layered bar made with oatmeal, white chocolate, and Nutella. Great for barbecues, camping, or an afternoon snack.

My family loves these Oatmeal Peanut Butter Bars, regardless of the season. I need to exercise caution when making them due to the risk of us entirely devouring them!

Ingredients

Oatmeal Bars

  • Brown Sugar
  • Butter
  • Karo Syrup (or 1/2 cup agave nectar + 2 tablespoons honey)
  • Quick Oats
  • Rolled Oats
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Salt

Chocolate & Peanut Butter Topping

  • Chocolate Chips
  • Peanut Butter

How do you make Oatmeal Peanut Butter Bars with chocolate?

Oatmeal Bars

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Grease a 9×13 metal pan.
  • Mix all the ingredients and press into the pan.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Chocolate & Peanut Butter Topping

  • In a medium glass bowl, microwave chocolate and peanut butter for one minute. Remove and quickly stir; return to microwave and heat for another 30 seconds, then stir again. Repeat until chocolate and peanut butter are well combined and melted.
  • Spread on bars immediately after they get out of the oven. Chill in the refrigerator.
  • When the bars have completely cooled, cut into squares and serve.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for 5-6 days.

  • 3 cups quick oats
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Chocolate & Peanut Butter Topping

  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter

Instructions
 

Oatmeal Bars

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Grease a 9×13 metal pan.
  • Mix all the ingredients and press into pan.
  • Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Chocolate & Peanut Butter Topping

  • In a medium glass bowl melt chocolate and peanut butter in the microwave for one minute. Remove and quickly stir, return to microwave and heat for another 30 seconds then stir again. Repeat until chocolate and peanut butter are well combined and melted.

  2. This is a great recipe, however it sure lacks in the instructions department. When you have made something your whole life, it comes as second nature. As a well seasoned cook(aka old), it takes a little figuring. First of all, not everyone knows that 2/3 cup = 10 TBS +2 teaspoons. That out of the way, it would also be helpful to know that the butter or margaring needs to be extremely soft!. I think my stove is fairly accurate, as it is new and I had to bake this for at least 16 minutes before it started to brown. I will keep this recipe and add a few little notes to make it easier.

  3. I LOVE peanut butter but peanut butter with chocolate MMmmmmm yum!! Since it has oatmeal can we consider this to be partially heathy LOL. LOVE all the recipes you share. Perfect for new meal & snack ideas we have been looking for ! May I add, I had THOUGHT my life was hectic and stretched thin with living on a farm and running a rescue kennel and raising my nieces baby boy who just turned 3 and we have had him with us since the day he was born (legally adopted) after our 3 older kids had grown and moved out on their own I had thought my time would free up a little (no more running to school events or sport activities etc) but I think I have so much less time now then I did back then. I don’t know how you do all you do with 5 young ones but my hat is off to you for making it seem simple !!! Gives me hope yet that I will once again find my nitch for living in a busy hectic world LOL.

  4. So upset. People use recipes to follow instructions because they don’t know how to make something. You listed milk as an ingredient an never used it. I’ll be so mad if these don’t turn out right. Using your list, I bought fancy items such as the agave and now I’m not even sure if it will work 🙁
