Double Chocolate Nutella Cinnamon Rolls

If that title didn’t get your attention, I don’t know what will. I mean, it has two of the greatest ingredients to ever be on the earth; chocolate and Nutella.

I just love a good cinnamon roll! The cinnamon center, soft sweet dough, and buttery golden crust just makes for deliciousness. But make the dough chocolate and substitute Nutella for the butter, this elevates it to a whole new level of awesomeness!

Now, after our first batch, yes we made two within 3 days, we all agreed this was like a donut more than a cinnamon roll. The frosting by far sets this apart from any other roll. The Nutella and cinnamon play well together, neither overpowers the other. Which makes a nice blend of gooey chocolate sweetness.

How do you make Double Chocolate Nutella Cinnamon Rolls?

Rolls
  • Place ingredients as listed in order above into a bread machine. Set for dough cycle. After complete on dough cycle, remove from machine and roll out to a rectangle about 17×10 inches. If you don’t have a bread machine follow the directions below.

  • Combine yeast, water, and sugar in a small bowl. Let it sit at room temperature for 5-+10 minutes until foamy.

  • In a large bowl add all ingredients, beginning with dry ingredients and ending with the wet ingredients. Knead this all together until well combined, I do this for 8-12 minutes. Time to get your workout in.

  • Cover bowl with a dry dishtowel and allow to rise until doubled. About 60-90 minutes.
  • Remove dough onto a floured surface, punch down to get rid of all the bubbles and roll out to a rectangle about 17×10 inches.
Filling
  • In a small bowl combine the sugar and the cinnamon, set aside. Spread the Nutella on the rolled out dough, make sure to cover the dough entirely. Sprinkled cinnamon and sugar mixture over the Nutella.

  • Roll the dough tightly from long end, pinching edges closed when completely rolled. Slice dough into 12 rolls, about 3/4-1 inch thick slices. Place into greased 9×13 pan, let rise until doubled, I always get impatient at this point and will let it rise for 30 minutes then bake.

  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20-22 minutes. Prepare glaze while baking if serving immediately.

Glaze
  • Mix butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract. Add hot water 1 tablespoon at a time until the glaze reaches desired consistency. Drizzle over sweet rolls after they have cooled for a few minutes.

  • Serve immediately. If serving later, set the rolls aside and glaze when ready to serve. Enjoy!
