Chocolate Pecan Pie

I remember the first time I made it was on December 23rd, in our third year of marriage. I was still trying to hone my cooking skills and impressing my husband was my ultimate goal. He loves pecans and swears he doesn’t like chocolate…I was on a mission to prove to him that somewhere inside his foodie heart there was a love of chocolate! Well…. let me tell you he ate the whole pie, well okay I nibbled off it too….but truly – the pie was gone that night. I had to make another for Christmas Eve to take to my Dad. He still says he doesn’t like chocolate, but this is one of the MANY desserts that are made of chocolate that he eats, no devours and loves.

Note: For the crust I used the same recipe as for my breakfast quiche. I do this because the filling in the pie is already sweet so I don’t want a sweet crust. To get that recipe click here:

Chocolate Pecan Pie

Chocolate Pecan Pie


  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch single crust pie
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup pecan halves


Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Heat butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted; cool slightly.

With hand beater, beat eggs, sugar, salt, chocolate mixture and corn syrup. Stir in pecans and pour mixture into pie shell.

Bake until set, 40 to 50 minutes. Cool slightly. Serve warm, or refrigerate and serve with nondairy whipped topping.

My review: Gooey chocolate inside mixed with pecans baked in a pie shell…yes it is good!

Kids review: Well you have me the chocolate lover put that with my husband the closet chocolate lover and pecan fan – so naturally our kids would love chocolate and pecans – HUGE hit!
